Why Retirement Projections Are Estimates, Not Guarantees

Why market volatility, inflation, tax law changes, and sequence-of-returns risk mean retirement models are hypothetical scenarios.

A retirement calculator can show a large future balance, but it cannot predict what markets will return or how much that balance will buy. Treat the output as a hypothetical illustration based on the inputs, not a promise or a complete retirement plan.

What this projection assumes MoneyPath applies a steady monthly growth rate derived from the annual rate you enter. Contributions are added each month and can increase at each year-end if you enter an escalation rate. The conservative and optimistic figures are simply the entered base rate minus or plus two percentage points; they are not probabilities or forecasts.

What can change the real outcome Investment returns vary over time rather than arriving as a smooth monthly rate. Inflation affects future purchasing power. Fees, taxes, contribution changes, withdrawals, account rules, and the timing of market gains or losses can all make a real outcome differ from the projection. This calculator does not model those details.

Use the MoneyPath Retirement Growth Estimator to see how the assumed rate changes the arithmetic. Then check account terms and country-specific guidance before making decisions.
